Face Care Empties

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Water Cream

Price: $100 for 1.7oz

In the past I tried the CT Magic Cream and I liked it, but it wasn’t a product I could say that I loved. When I saw that a water cream version was being released, I was so intrigued. Having normal to oily skin, I feel like most moisturizers feel too heavy on my skin.  The CT Magic Water Cream is described as a weightless, gel water cream that is fragrance free.

I really liked the texture of the cream. I wouldn’t say it feels like most water creams as the consistency was a little thicker, but still very much on the light-weight side. The cream sinked into the skin beautifully and I’m happy to say I didn’t have any issues with it pilling or any skin irritations. I honestly think that this cream is perfect for all skin types, but especially for those that are on the oilier side like myself.

My only con is the price. I think $100 for a Charlotte Tilbury moisturizer is insane. If you’re able to acquire the cream through a sale, then it may be worth it. As much as I loved the formula the price is something I cannot justify at all.

OneSize On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray

Price: $18 for 1oz

As someone with skin that leans on the oily side - especially during the summer months, a good setting mist is a must in my makeup routine. I heard great things about the One Size setting spray, so I decided to give it a try by purchasing the mini size. The On ‘Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray has an aerosol spray nozzle that is said to have a 16-hour waterproof matte finish in a transfer-proof formula.

Being that this setting mist has an aerosol spray, it doesn’t feel wet after it’s been applied. This may be the only thing I liked about the product, other than that, this product was a big NO for me! Every time I used it, it felt like I was choking! It almost felt like I was applying hairspray to my face based on the scent and feel. I didn’t find it to work any better than other setting sprays that I’ve tried. I’m not one to over apply or under apply when it comes to setting sprays and I feel like this one didn’t last long.

Wella Fusion Intense Repair Shampoo

Price: $25 for 8.4oz

I initially tried a sample of the Wella Intense Repair Shampoo, and I really liked it, so I happily picked it up in a full size. The shampoo is described to gently cleanse and increase the strength of the hair to protect against breakage. This was a shampoo that I used interchangeably as a first cleanser and sometimes as a second cleanser. I really liked it for both. I found that the cleanser did a great job at cleansing my hair all whilst making it feel really good. The Fusion Intense shampoo has a good amount of slip, which allowed me to do a decent job in terms of finger detangling with it. As someone who has really dry hair, I think the Fusion Intense Repair shampoo did a great job at making my hair feel moisturized. The overall price is not too bad, and I often see it on sale at Ulta!

The Doux Big Poppa Defining Gel

Price: $15.89 for 16oz

The Big Poppa gel is a product that I’ve used in the past and I kind of went back and forth with how I feel about it. It took me sometime of continuous usage to see how I like to use it and how it works best for my hair. The gel has the standard consistency of most gels, but I do find this one to be super hydrating. I think the gel does a pretty good at defining my curls with a soft define hold. I tried using it for twist outs, but I found that it didn’t provide a strong enough hold to use it on it’s own on many occasions. I ultimately decided to use it more as a refresher to finger coil my curls that were a couple of days old.

Being that this is more of a hydrating gel, I think my hair responds better to it when using it during the cooler months when the air is dryer. While using this during the summer months I think the extra humidity in the air mixed with the hydration in the defining gel made my curls look frizzier than usual. I do like this gel, but I probably won’t be repurchasing it until the winter months when my hair needs extra hydration.

Adwoa Beauty Melonberry Hair Milk Leave-In Conditioner

Price: $24 for 6.8oz

As you can see from my bottle with the packaging very scratched off, this hair milk leave-in was a well-loved product in my haircare routine. The melonberry hair milk is a leave-in conditioner with a spray applicator that helps to detangle, moisturize, and soften the hair. It’s formulated with key ingredients such as Kalahari Melon Seed Oil, Red Raspberry Seed Oil, and Strawberry Seed Oil to help nourish, hydrate, and promote healthy hair. I really love this has a spray applicator as it made it such much easier to use – at least in the beginning.

For most occasions I used the leave-in directly after washing my hair and it did a good job to help me detangle along with providing moisture back into my hair. I also really enjoyed using this as a curl refresher days after washing my hair and wearing it curly. The spray applicator made for an easier application and really worked well to refresh my hair without disrupting my curls. My only con is the spray nozzle would often got clogged, which then caused excess product to build up near the applicator.

The Ordinary Multi Peptide Hair Serum

Price: $22 for 2oz

It’s been a few years since I’ve initially tried the Ordinary hair serum, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to give it a try again to see if my thoughts have changed. Well, my thoughts have remained unchanged. Although, I didn’t see a noticeable change while using it, I do think the serum helped to improve the health of my scalp. I found the serum to be hydrating and helped to keep my scalp feeling more moisturized and refreshed.

Body Care Empties

Prequel Gleanser + SA

Price: $18 for 13.5oz

The Gleanser is a non-drying glycerin-based cleanser that is formulated with Salicylic Acid with the intention of being used on the face and body. The cleanser is said to be non-stripping, fragrance free, and suitable for sensitive skin. There’s not many dual (face and body) products that I can say that I like for both my face and body. For my face I think the cleanser worked nicely as a second step cleanser. I say that as it did a good job to cleanse my face from impurities, but it wasn’t the best at removing my eye makeup completely.

For the most part I used the cleanser for my body, and I loved it. The cleanser has a gel like consistency and is low foaming. Being that it’s a fragrance free formula, I was able to use it on my body even when it felt irritated, as I sometimes break out in hives/rashes. I love using Salicylic Acid in my body care routine to combat body acne on my neck and chest. I sometimes used it for my underarms since I solely wear natural deodorant. Even with using the cleanser daily, I didn’t experience any issues with my skin feeling dry, which is likely due to the glycerin in the formula. I can’t recommend this one enough, especially if you’re looking for a multipurpose type of cleanser.

Eadem Smooth Slate Ingrown Hair Serum

Price: $36 for 3.38oz

I have to say I’m stickler for products that have a roll-on/stick applicator, so I was eager to give this one a try! The Smooth Slate is an ingrown serum that is formulated with AHAs, Azelaic Acid along with skin soothing ingredients like Panthenol, Cica, and Polyglutamic Acid. The Smooth Slate has a smooth balm like consistency and quickly absorbs into the skin. I found the stick applicator to glide across the skin easily, which made applications very quick and easy. Formula wise, I did see a significant change while using it. I do think the smooth slate did a good job to combat against ingrown and even helped to fade dark spots. I used the serum daily and didn’t experience any issues with sensitivity.

Overall, I really enjoyed the serum, and I think it performed well. I did find the price point of $36 to be on the higher side. I would definitely repurchase if it was on sale. In the meantime, I’m trying out a few different ingrown serums to see if I can find something a little less expensive.

Farmacy Beauty Honey Bubbly Body Wash

Price: Unknown as product is discontinued (8.3oz size)

I’ve gone through a few bottles of the Honey Bubbly body wash over the past years. It really reminded me of the Farmacy Clean Bee cleanser, but in the form of body cleanser. I found the scent to be really pleasant with a nice honey undertone. The body wash had a nice level of lather and always left my skin feeling super moisturized. But, it appears that it has now been discontinued, which is unfortunate.

Beekman Milkshake Body Mist

Price: $29 for 2.0oz

Love these Milkshake body mists! I find that they all smell really good. The spray applicator helps to distribute the product well and to hard-to-reach areas. Most importantly, these mists are truly moisturizing. I especially love them for the summer months and leisure routines when I need to moisturize my skin but may be in a rush or not looking for something too heavy on the skin.

Candle Empties

Trader Joe’s Peony Candle

Price: $3.99 for 5.7oz

Peonies have become one of my favorite flowers, so for the spring season I had to pick up one of the TJ’s peony candles. I would describe the scent as a sweet floral, that’s not overly sweet. I really enjoyed the scent of the candle. I think next year I’ll pick up two instead of one since the candle is a seasonal item.

Bath and Body Works Cherry Almond Shortbread

Price: $26.95 (3 wick for 14.5oz)

Fragrance Notes: vanilla shortbread, candied almond and cherry.

I’m not the biggest gourmand fan, but I smelled this one in the store and instantly fell for it. I’m not even the biggest cherry scent vibe, but I found that scent reminds me of the Jergen’s Lotion in the original scent of Cherry Almond. I really like how fragrant the candle was and how well the scent lingered in my space. I believe I purchased this in the late spring, so unfortunately it’s not currently available, but I’m sure it’ll be around next year.

Diptyque Etincelles Candle

Price: $76 for 6.5oz (190 grams)

The Etincelles candle is apart of their holiday collection. It blends scent notes of wood fire, coffee, and chocolate. I know it sounds like a bit of unique blend of scent notes. For the most part I pick up on the woody and coffee notes. Being that this is special seasonal candle, this one has a really pretty detail to the glass vessel and it even came with a gold lid. I love the Diptyque candles so much and part of the reasons why I buy them is to reuse the candle jars when I finish them. I’m looking forward to repurposing this one!
