Acaderma: The Oasis Barrier Booster REVIEW

I’m sure many of you have never heard of the skincare brand Acaderma. I discovered the brand while browsing through Join Palm. What initially drew my attention to the brand is that it combines academics research and skincare solutions. The Acaderma Barrier is an infusion serum that is aimed to provide an immediate soothing relief to the skin. It’s aimed to strengthen the skin. The booster is designed for those who have red, dehydrated skin and that has barrier damage.

  • Please Note: The item I received was in part of a collaboration with @joinpalm. I paid an access fee (not a discount) to review the Acaderma The Oasis Barrier Booster

Acaderma - The Oasis Barrier Booster

Why I was interested in trying out the Acaderma barrier booster?

The brand Acaderma is founded on research and uses it as a foundation for their beauty products. As someone who uses multiple actives/acids in their routine, I was eager to test out a product that would improve/protect the barrier of my skin. These claims made me wonder if the Barrier Booster would also be great for those like myself who doesn’t have dry skin but exfoliates often along with using harsh active/acids daily. Throughout the week I rotate between various products that contain acids (AHA, BHA, PHA), Vitamin C, the usage of Retinol and also some physical exfoliation. I’ll admit my skincare routine contains a lot if active ingredients and is not meant for beginners.

This past winter I introduced Retinol into my skincare routine and my skin started peeling, but was still very soft and supple. After about a month of hydrating and soothing treatments I was able to get it back to a great place. But I’m still concerned that I may of done some damage to the barrier of my skin. This has made me incorporate products that contain Ceramides* and Vitamin B, which are known with helping to repair the barrier of the skin.

Ceramides* are lipids that help form the skin's barrier and help skin retain moisture. They are known to hold skin together by forming a protective layer that limits moisture loss and protects against visible damage from pollution and other environmental stressors

Does this Barrier Booster sound familiar to another brand on the market?

The only other brand on the market that is known to me to have these benefits + color correcting is the Krave : Great Barrier Relief . I have never tried any of the products from the Krave brand. The two products sound similar, but the Krave barrier relief contains color correcting and the formula is made with multiple oils. This sounds like it would be great for someone with really dry and damaged skin.

Ingredient breakdown

The Oasis is made with two powerful Sahara xerophytes: African kinkeliba and cactus. Xerophytes are plants that are able to withstand and survive Africa’s harsh arid climate, making them the most appropriate to treat de-hydrated and damaged skin.

Acaderma’s scientific team extracted the patented Seh-Haw EX™ from kinkeliba to concentrate its effects by 100-fold, creating a product that can protect and repair the skin’s outermost barrier.

REVIEW

How does it work?

Directions: Apply to the face each morning and evening after cleansing the skin and before moisturizer.

My normal skin routine is as followed:

  1. Cleanser (Sometimes 2)

  2. Toner

  3. Essence

  4. Serum/Treatement

  5. Facial Oil

  6. Moisturizer

  • on most nights I apply some type of face mask after my cleanser

The texture of the barrier booster is very thin. The texture reminds me of the consistency of a heavier essence, but lighter than an average serum. For testing purposes I stopped using my essence while testing out the barrier booster. The directions called to use the barrier booster after cleansing, but before moisturizer. Within my routine during the testing period I used the barrier booster after my toner, but before active serum/treatments. Lastly, I followed up with my facial oil and moisturizer combination.

After applying it to my face it leaves a bit of a tacky feeling to the face. The serum doesn’t have a scent and is of a very light yellowish color. I can’t say that my face felt any different after using the The Oasis Barrier Booster. Could it be that I my skin is not very dehydrated or the barrier of my skin is good condition. I tested out the booster for several weeks, may be is a product that would require extended usage. It’s hard to tell a noticeable difference to the naked eye if the barrier booster improved my skin. At this point the booster would serve as a preventative treatment.

I do plan to continue my usage of the Barrier Booster, but I think I’ll only use it once a day- at night. My night time routine incorporates more treatments and serums that contain actives. I had a neutral experience using The Barrier Booster, but I find the price tag to be on the expensive side at 1 ounce for $68. There’s other products on the market like the Krave Great Barrier Relief that retails at $28 for 1.35 ounces. I will continue to use and finish the Barrier Booster since I purchased it. But I’m not likely purchase it in the future due to the price tag and not seeing much of a physical difference with my skin while using it. I do use a lot of active/acids within my routine so I may look into purchasing the Krave’s version to see how I like it.
