The Cult Favorite: Tatcha The Water Cream (In-Depth Review)
Tatcha, which name is derived from tachibana, the classical Japanese art of flower arranging that features a single "standing flower," representing the beauty of simplicity, was started by CEO, Victoria Tsai around 2009. As someone who has tried out the majority of the products from the Tatcha product line over the past year, I would like to share my thoughts on the Tatcha Water Cream from a consumer stand point that has Normal-Oily Skin.

Over the past year and some change I purchased the popular Tatcha Starter Ritual Kit (for normal to oily skin) (picture above), the full size of the Tatcha Water Cream and tried out multiple other products from the line. The Water Cream is what initially drew me into the brand. I've used the Tatcha Water Cream during the day and night over the past year during the fall, winter, spring and summer. Based on these facts, I feel that I've used the product long enough to provide an in-depth review.
OVERVIEW OF THE TATCHA WATER CREAM
The Tatcha Water Cream is an oil-free anti-aging water based cream that is enriched with powerful Japanese botanicals and their signature Hadesi 3*(mixture of green tea, rice & algae). Many may not know, but it also includes 24 carat gold. The cream is also formulated WITHOUT Mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, urea, DEA, TEA or phthalates, making it appropriate for multiple skin types.
Directions:
-Scoop a pearl-size amount of cream with the gold spoon.
-Massage onto face, neck, and décolletage in upward strokes.
-Use daily, morning and night.

As someone with Normal-Combination skin that pulls more to the Oily side, I find it quite difficult when purchasing a moisturizer. I need extra moisture about the perimeter of my face, especially around the area of jaw line. But I also need a moisturizer that's not too hydrating for my oily t-zone. The majority of the products that I've mentioned above did not offer me the best hydrating levels and anti-aging properties that I was looking for.
After trying out so many moisturizers over time, I decided to try out the Tatcha Water Cream. I first heard about the brand Tatcha from watching many of my favorite beauty gurus on YouTube. Most of them ranted and raved about how much they loved the brand. Many of these influencers had received their products for free.
I know it's a big controversy within the influencer community regarding free products and paid ads. Many of us wonder- are they telling the truth, were they paid to make these statements and if they actually love the products that they mention???
The combination of the Tatcha Water Cream flooding the influencer market along with my need for a new moisturizer that would take care of all my skin care needs made me eager to try it out. Once I started using the Water Cream the initial thing that stood out to me was the texture of the water cream. The texture is very much like a gel that is not sticky and absorbs into the skin very quickly. Only needing to use a very little product at a time helped the product last a pretty long time.
The Breakdown
Smell- As for the smell I found it very pleasant. Smells clean- not over powering or too harsh.
How my skin felt?- Using the cream I noticed that my skin felt noticeably softer after. Applying it actually felt like I was adding water to my face. My skin felt moisturized, but it didn't leave my face feeling oily, even during the summer months. I didn't notice any clogged pore or break-outs related to the cream. The Tatcha Water Cream played well with my other serums and facial products without any interference. Lastly, it worked well even under my make-up.
Packaging-I love how lux the jar looks on my vanity. I love that the cream comes with a little gold spatula to scoop out the product. This is great as it also helps to stop contatmation to the cream since you're not placing your fingers into the jar.
Price: The full size of the Tatcha Water Cream is 1.7 oz/ 50 mL for $68.00.
This is the most expensive moisturizer that I've ever purchased/used in my life. Being that I've had a positive experience using the cream, I would definitely repurchase it again. Most of the other comparable creams that I've tested out are around the same price range. So for me, I would say it's worth the price. However, I would definitely wait to purchase/repurchase the cream until when Sephora has one of their big sales twice a year. It would also be a great idea purchasing a kit that contains the cream. Until thenI have three mini's on standby for backup use.
